Good maintenance of the instrument can greatly reduce the failure of the instrument and effectively extend the service life of the instrument. The following are the maintenance and maintenance suggestions for TSI AM 520 dust monitor provided by Esky Purify:

Esky Purify recommends that you perform a factory calibration on the TSI AM 520 dust monitor once a year. The factory calibration is an absolute calibration, which is different from the comparison calibration of a third party. The factory calibration will adjust the instrument to a (nearly new) working condition and give it to you together with a calibration certificate. This (annual inspection) will ensure that the TSI AM 520 dust monitor is always in the best working condition. Regular factory cleaning and calibration can ensure that the instrument works properly and gets the latest upgrades, providing users with accurate and reliable measurement results.

Maintenance

The instrument requires regular maintenance. The most commonly used maintenance is the following five types:

● General cleaning

● Impactor maintenance

● Cyclone maintenance

● Battery charging

● Zeroing

1. General cleaning

Users can use a damp cloth and soapy water to complete general cleaning of the instrument chassis. Do not use chemical cleaning agents, gasoline derivative cleaning agents, or alcohol to clean the instrument chassis or front panel.

The user may clean the siren horn on the front of the instrument with a foam or lint-free cotton swab. Do not use high pressure compressed air to clean as this may damage the inner membrane of the siren horn and re-atomize particles.

 


 

2. Use and maintenance of the built-in impactor particle size cutter

The standard inlet of the instrument does not have the function of separating particles of a specific particle size. The user can use an external selective particle size aerosol sampling port (such as a cyclone separator or an external impactor particle size cutter) at any flow rate within the applicable range. The user can distinguish the standard inlet from the built-in impactor inlet by the particle size markings on the edge and top of the inlet.

The instrument is equipped with 4 impactors, allowing users to conveniently separate particles in a specific size range instead of the standard inlet. Each impactor is marked with a 50% cutoff size in microns (μ). These 4 impactors provide cutoff sizes of 1.0μ, 2.5μ, 5μ, and 10μ, corresponding to PM1.0, PM2.5, PM5, and PM10, respectively. All inlets are made of conductive plastic to prevent particle loss due to static electricity.

Precautions

When using the built-in impactor, the user should set the flow rate to 1.7 L/min to ensure accurate measurement results. Using other flow rates may produce particles of unknown size range. If the user uses the standard inlet, there is no flow rate requirement.

When the user uses an external size-selective sampler (such as a cyclone separator or external impactor), the standard (unmarked) inlet should be used.

The size-selective inlet uses a built-in impactor disk. The impactor disk works like a collecting plate and particles larger than the cut-off size are adsorbed. Different impactors use the same impact disk, but the standard inlet does not require an impact disk.

The user needs to drop 1 to 4 drops of impact oil on the impact disk and wipe off the excess impact oil, which will make the impact disk more adsorbent to particles larger than the cutting size.
