GE Analytical Instruments is a leader in total organic carbon analysis instruments. The company's first total organic carbon analyzer, the Model 800, was originally developed for NASA to monitor drinking water for astronauts on the International Space Station. After its introduction into commercial production, the Sievers Model 800 quickly gained wide acclaim due to its superior accuracy and ease of use, becoming the best-selling total organic carbon analyzer in the pharmaceutical industry and a leader in microelectronics applications. The next generation of the Sievers Model 800, the Sievers 900 series, was launched in 2004. The Sievers 900 series has three specific-purpose models with improved automation and reliability.
Sievers Membrane Conductivity Detection - Unsurpassed TOC Detection:
Sievers Membrane Conductivity Detection has proven to be an extremely reliable technique for the determination of Total Organic Carbon (TOC). Unlike instruments using Non-Dispersive Infrared (NDIR) detection, conductivity detection exhibits a dynamic range of six orders of magnitude and extremely stable calibration that is not susceptible to significant fluctuations over time. This reduces the frequency of calibration without sacrificing analytical performance. Patented membrane conductivity detection technology uses a gas permeable membrane that selectively transmits only CO2 generated by the oxidation of organic matter. By preventing interference from oxidative CO2 measurements by, for example, acids, bases and halogenated compounds, the membrane conductivity method achieves unmatched sensitivity, selectivity, stability, accuracy and precision.
